THE MOMENT

It was one of the happiest days of my life.  I went to Palakkad to shoot a documentary as part of my studies.  There to the beautiful Attapadi.  Travel through roads with many twists and turns.  While going to Attapadi, a single desire was bothering my mind.  To see Nanjiamma.

  Nanjiamma is an Indian singer.  A person representing a tribal community in God's own country, Kerala.  She was born in a Irula community in Nakupati village of Attapadi.  Today, she sings and conquers the stages of foreign countries.  Those who enjoy songs and rhythms clap along with Nanjiamma.  Today, she achieved this popularity by singing in the movie Ayyappanum Koshiyum directed by Sachi.  The song titled "Kalakkatha" gained attention.  It has lyrics written in the language of the Irula.

  Nanjiamma was awarded the national film Award for best female playback Singer in the 68th national film award of India for the song "kalakkatha" song from the movie Ayyappanum koshiyum. This has led to a lot of critisism. Folk art and song are the preserve of a community. Nanjiamma says that the new generation should not miss this. Attapadi is a great source of knowledge. Their voices should be heard by the outside world. It is the responsibility of a society to see that their culture, songs and lyrics are not lost.

പ്രണയം ഏറ്റവും വലിയ വേദന ആയത് വിശപ്പിന്റെ വേദനയെ കുറിച്ച് എഴുതാൻ ആളില്ലാത്തത് കൊണ്ടാണ് എന്നാണല്ലോ പറയുന്നത്. ശരിയല്ലേ...? വിശന്നാൽ നീ നീയല്ലാതെ ആവും എന്ന് പരസ്യം പറയുമ്പോൾ നാം ചിരിക്കും. പക്ഷെ വിശപ്പ് അറിയുന്നവർക്കേ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്റെ വിലയറിയൂ. പലപ്പോഴും ഉപ്പില്ല, പുളിയില്ല, രുചിയില്ല, ഒരു മുടിനാര് കണ്ടു എന്നൊക്കെ പറഞ്ഞ് വലിച്ചെറിയുന്ന ഭക്ഷണത്തിന് പിന്നിൽ ഒരുപാട് പേരുടെ വിയർപ്പുണ്ട്‌.  ഇതെല്ലാം ഒന്ന് ഓർക്കുന്നതിൽ തെറ്റില്ല.         ഇനി മറ്റൊന്ന് കൂടി സൂചിപ്പിക്കാം. ലോക പട്ടിണി സൂചികയിൽ ഇന്ത്യ നൂറ്റിയേഴാമത് സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. നൂറ്റിയൊന്നാം സ്ഥാനത്ത് നിന്നാണ് വീണ്ടും താഴേക്ക് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഈ സൂചിക മുന്നോട്ട് വയ്ക്കുന്നത് പടിപടിയായി ഇന്ത്യ പിന്നോട്ട് പോവുന്നു എന്നതാണ്. ഏഷ്യയിൽ നൂറ്റിയൊൻപതാം സ്ഥാനത്തുള്ള അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാൻ മാത്രമാണ് ഇന്ത്യക്ക് പിന്നിൽ ഉള്ളത്. പലവിധത്തിൽ പല മേഖലകളിലേക്കായി സഹായങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തിരുന്ന ഇന്ത്യയെക്കാൾ മുന്നിൽ 99, 84, 64, 81 സ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽ ആയി അയൽരാജ്യങ്ങൾ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ വർധിച്ചു വരുന്ന പോഷകാഹാരക്കുറവ്, പട്ടിണി, കുട്ടികളിലെ തൂക്കക...

കേരളത്തിലെ കാശ്മീർ

"കേരളത്തിലെ കാശ്മീർ" എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന പൊന്മുടി ഹിൽ സ്റ്റേഷൻ തിരുവനന്തപുരം ജില്ലയിൽ പെരിങ്ങമല എന്ന പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ സുവർണ ഭൂപ്രദേശം പശ്ചിമഘട്ട മലനിരയുടെ ഭാഗമാണ്. ഒരു വർഷം ഉടനീളം നല്ല കാലാവസ്ഥയുള്ള പൊന്മുടി പ്രശസ്തമായ ഹണിമൂൺ ടെസ്റ്റിനേഷൻ കൂടിയാണ്. ജൈവവൈവിധ്യത്തിന് സുരക്ഷയുറപ്പിക്കാൻ എല്ലാ വിധത്തിലുള്ള സൗകര്യങ്ങളും ഇവിടെ സജ്ജമാണ്. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് നിന്ന് 60 കിലോമീറ്ററോളം ദൂരമുള്ള പൊന്മുടി പ്രകൃതിയെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവർ തള്ളികളയും എന്ന് തോന്നുന്നില്ല. പൊന്മുടിയിലേക്ക് എത്തിപ്പെടാൻ തമ്പാനൂർ കെ. എസ്. ആർ. ടി. സി സ്റ്റാൻഡിൽ നിന്നും രാവിലെ 9.20ന് ഒരു ബസ് ഉണ്ട്‌. ഉച്ചക്ക് ശേഷം 3.20ന് പൊന്മുടിയിറങ്ങാൻ ബസ് ഉണ്ടാവുന്നതാണ്. കോടയിറങ്ങി നിൽക്കുന്ന പൊന്മുടി കാണാൻ രാവിലെയോ വൈകിട്ടോ എത്തുന്നതായിരിക്കും നല്ലത്. പോവും വഴി ഒരുപാട് കുരങ്ങന്മാരെയും പലതരത്തിലുള്ള പക്ഷികളെയും കാണാവുന്നതാണ്. ആ ഒരു തണുപ്പിൽ ഒന്ന് ചൂടാവാൻ, ഒരു ചായയോ കാപ്പിയോ കാച്ചാൻ കൊച്ച് കൊച്ച് കടകളും ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്. മനോഹരമായ വ്യൂ പോയിന്റ്, ചുവന്ന കല്ലുകളാൽ നിർമിച്ച ചെറിയ കോട്ടെജുകളും ഇവിടെ കാണാം. പൊന്മുടിയിലേക്ക് ...
